As for German and Crostian, one of my favorite singers is Ivo Robic, a Croat who sings beautifully in German, but with a Croatian accent.
So glad you liked the flags. I got them at a little store right next to Second Cup. :)
As for the paper, there is a great story behind that.
I really don't like most patterns of wrapping paper, because they just have too much going on. I like simpler designs, and I prefer red and white (I think it's obvious why I prefer red and white! Just look at my flags!). When I bought that paper, I saw the side with the little round candies on it. I thought it was the nicest pattern of everything they had, so I bought two rolls. I also ought your stuff the same day.
When I came home, I unrolled the paper, and discovered the side with the stripes. That was the pattern I'd been looking for, all along. When I was a child my Mormor (Danish for Mom's Mom) would get red and white striped wrapping paper, and wrap all our presents in it. It was such a nice surprise finding that pattern that I went back the next day and bought two more rolls. :)
If I knew you liked candy canes so much, I'd have sent you some!!!
We have something here called Candy Cane Bark. It's crushed up pieces of candy canes, mixed in layered chocolate; dark chocolate on the bottom, and white on top. It's SOOOO good!! I've already eaten two bags of the stuff. LOL
If there's anything in there that you particularly like, just let me know.
But I don't even know whether I'd like the taste as I have never tasted one *lol*
I have another funny story to share.
For the background knowledge, you need to know that English language is considered trendy among advertisers. So products tend to have English slogans on them and words like "light" are pretty common. We have a lot of "light products" that are fat, sugar or calory reduced.
So when I chose to try the Aero yesterday, I told hubby "Cool, everything is in English and French". Then he took a look at the wrapping paper and suddenly said "And it is light chocolate!".
I was like "Huh, did not see that!" and tried to find the "light" on the packaging... well... it was the French "lait" he thought is French for "light". I so love him for things like that :-) He was so cute stating that absolutely serious and convinced to be true...
John, around here, That's how a lot of people pick up practical French.

Too complicated for a non-native English speaker with dyslexia :-(
German pancakes are THIN.
Abelskiver are found pancakes, like little balls.
