Yes, yes,yes, yes, yes, Atticus. Your poetry is beautiful and your reading makes it even more special. You really should make recordings of your work. Like talking books. Your voice is so perfect for this.
I write prose more than poetry, and reading the text aloud makes a world of difference. You learn to vary the length of your sentences, when to pause, etc. Excellent post, and thank you for a few minutes of sheer pleasure.
marie, you made my day! Thank you so much for your encouragement. I think this is so important for writers to learn to do. Even if they don't ever get comfortable with it and only read aloud to one other person. It teaches you so much! Will you post something for us? I hope so. I would love to hear you read. Listening to someone read their work is such a wonderful meditative experience.

This takes the Gather experience to a whole new level. I enjoyed hearing your work read aloud especially being familiar with much of it from from earlier postings. It's good and comes from deep sources, a life of heart.

Wishing I was in more of a writing mind...working older stuff but in a rather dry, fallow place for conjuring new material. Filling the well by reading, particularly Alice Munro. G. Keillor's been near at hand to lighten my step.
I agree that reading your writing out loud--and especially recording it and listening to it--can help you spot a lot of things. This is true for prose, too, though probably even truer for poetry.
