They weren't marked as anything at all, but I know it's a dwarf (black stripe on back and size)

She is cute. I think it's a girl. Males are easy to identify on rodents. Uh, it's very obvious when a rodent is a male.

My mom thought it looked like a girl, too.

If you're planning on getting a companion, make sure you are prepared for babies. That's fine if you want the babies, though. Otherwise, you better get one that is the same sex.

Yeah, that's why we were trying to figure out this one's gender so we can go in and request the same gender for the next one.

We went through all of that with the mice (bought one that was already pregnant), and while hamsters are wonderful to have around (and short lived) I don't want them breeding left and right and not have homes for them all. :)

Exactly. They're all darling, but that's why when I deliberately bred my piebald teddy bear, I was prepared ahead of time with extra cages. I had a cage for papa, a cage for all the boys, and one big cage for mama and all the girls. She had fourteen, seven of each. But, I knew what I was doing and was well-prepared before I even bred her. My papa hamster was a lovely blonde colored angora golden.
