Hawk Calls Out

Not only did I catch this hawk making calls, but I captured some of the mocking birds attacking it. I didn't realize the smaller birds were that brave around preditors or that the hawk would just sit there and take it, lol. Anyone know for certain if this is a red-shouldered hawk? Video taken 10/17/2009.

VERY cool! I only saw one mockingbird (well, small bird -- I couldn't see well enough to tell the type). Were there more? Usually they attack in a mob.

There were 4 flitting around. Only caught 2 in this segment.

That makes sense. Small birds often attack big ones... but they generally get some numbers behind them, lol. Good life lesson, maybe...?

Very nice. I saw a hawk sitting on a telephone wire while a blue jay kept swooping down and hitting it in the head. The hawk didn't seem to care. Surprised me.

Crows will mob attack red-tailed hawks, too, if given a chance. The zoo is especially protective of its raptures in its program. Crows won't try to mob the raptures when there are plenty of people around to protect them.
