Roaring Male Alligators

Alligators don't have vocal chords, but the males can roar. I was lucky to catch a bunch of them sounding off this morning while I was at Huntington Beach State Park. You'll want to turn up your sound for this one!

Spring is breeding season. I was told the males were really fighting in May. I'd guess eggs would be hatching now still though.

It may technically be called a roar, but I think they sounded more like Kevin does when I scratch his back.
And did you notice the Jesus Birds in there? The ones walking on water?

Outstanding video Marianne...I still can not get over how the birds just stand around or continue feeding as the gators swim by or do what they're doing here...

If the gators get too close, the birds take off. Also when this roaring started, it spooked a bunch of birds into flight, lol. You have to understand that it is way louder than the video mic will pick up.
Oh yea,..I can only imagine how crazy loud they are...so the birds have an eye out at all times, they just act like they aren't looking : - )
and I had to watch and listen again...I would love to see this first hand but would be scared too to live so close to so many...do they wonder into your neighborhoods

Your really brave...the closest I have come to gators is at Gatorland in kissimmee Fl...and that is to close for me
