A drug used to lower cholesterol (NOT a statin) may be very useful for people with diabetes, even if they don?t have high cholesterol. A study reported in this week?s journal Lancet demonstrated a decreased risk of amputation in diabetics treated with fenofibrate. Why this happens isn?t clear, but it may help prevent small blood vessel damage, a common problem in diabetes.
