Effie for Soprano, French Horn and Piano

One of my favorite musical experiences has been performing with my family. This performance features my daughter Christiana singing soprano, my daughter Alyson on French Horn and me playing piano. Christiana was a senior in high school and this was from her senior recital June 8, 2004. There are a number of pieces for soprano, horn and piano. The combination works quite well.

They both sound so beautiful! I really love how warm Alyson's playing is... the some notes slipped a bit, but the horn is the slipperiest instrument (it's hard to keep hitting the right pitch.) Nice trill though!

Those are great times, playing with family... I wish I still have that. I have the speakers on super quiet right now, but from what I hear, your piano playing is great as well!

Ahh~ nice harmony at the end!!!

Phillip Farkas was quoted as saying "A French Horn is allowed 3 mistakes per page, no more, no less." I have no idea if it's true, but it should be. Trombone is much more forgiving. Thanks for the kind words on the piano playing.

Beautiful! I used to play french horn and it's not easy! You are blessed to have such a talented family.

What a treasure. And here I thought that all brass and woodwind instruments were equally difficult. (Says the woman who played violin.) Only musicians would notice the blips, Marc, Sounds great.

I was looking for horn and soprano pieces, and came across this - it's beautiful! I am a horn student and I'm playing a half recital next year with a soprano. Could you tell me who the composer is? Do you know of other horn/soprano pieces? Thanks for your help!

There are lots of pieces written for this combination. There are two recordings that cover much of this repertoire: In the Twilight: Romantic Music for Soprano, Horn and Piano Performers James Sommerville, Rena Sharon and Annette Betanski and an older recording by Joan Sutherland and Barry Tuckwell on Archiv titled Romantic Trios for Soprano, Horn, Piano. All the pieces are very beautiful. It's a very nice combination.
Still working on relocating the Effie sheet music to get the composer listed.
