Thank you for posting this to The Surreal Circus. You are now featured.
Great music, great narration, but the images aren't exciting me all that much. I think the very long and narrow aspect ratio you're using may be a handicap if you want to talk about a personal story (rather than, say, a landacape).
My first reaction was to wonder where the iconic religous images are, as this appears to be a trip away from the conventional God.
On the third viewing I finally noticed two quick, captivating shots of a scary mask-face in the middle of this trailer. I think they are the most striking images here, but the cut was too quick for me to catch at first.
I can't wait to see the final product! I hope you finish The Man No One Sees soon as well.
as far as the trailer, you mentioned us not using the religious images... there is a reason for that. the trailer's intent is to be very illusive and give away very, very little. in working with tom and pony, i learned to be a little more unpredictable. this film- though very blunt and to the point, much like my music style, i managed to come at it with a little more metaphoric and poetic value. and you're right, we made the scary images very quick... i wanted folks to really have to try and figure this one out... keep em' guessing.
i have to say, working with tom & pony on this endeavor was wonderful!!! they both had brought so much to the table on this one. tom was beautiful during the filming process and so very patient with me. (rumour has it that i am quite the holy terror on sets.) his direction was spot on and very, very helpful with keep consistencies.
aside of pony's acting, his music is the bulk of the soundtrack and it is GORGEOUS!!!!! that is his music behind the trailer also. i am so very honoured to have his music affiliated with this film. i actually shed a tear a couple times when previewing the film with the soundtrack. pony is so fucking talented, i can't stand it!
of course, i do not want to leave out my dear, d.gauss. flawless as always, he manged to film this just as pony and i discussed. raw. gritty. dark and foreboding. he did a lot of "documentary style" cinematography which lends to this intensity of the film.
i can't wait for you to see a finished product. we're almost there. a couple more weeks and it should be all together. the film is done, i just need to do some minor tweeking. i must say, it is one very fucked-up project. you literally feel rather dirty after viewing it. heh-heh... how grand. ;)
