Love or Dominance?

These guys have never gotten along.
We've had Austin for almost 14 years (he'll be 15 next month) and we just brought Ralph in the house this past fall. (He was a stray living in our boat all summer!)
There has been lots of growling, hissing and even some swatting going on. It finally morphed into a tolerance sort of thing. So imagine my surprise to walk into the living room today to find THIS going on!!!!
If you watch closer though, you can almost sense a dominance sort of thing.... kinda like "I'M GONNA LICK YOU AND YOU ARE GONNA SIT THERE AND ENJOY IT, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!!!!!" LOL.
I just thought it was pretty funny.

Our newest addition has been doing better with the other cats, and Rajik, our resident licker, has even started grooming her, but they do it snuggled up on the sofa or bed together. Yesterday, Giaa was trying to assert her dominance by tackling the others and biting at their necks. They all kind of tolerated her, though. I was happy to see that.

yeah ours are strictly indoors too.
