An Accidental Tourist to Copenhagen (Gay/Lesbian) Pride

After a meeting on Saturday in Copenhagen, decided to take a quiet stroll downtown, and came upon a huge, very happy party. For some reason, this news video did not get posted on Sunday, August 17, 2008 and for the 10 days following, despite all efforts, including sending it directly several times to Gather Support in Boston from Copenhagen, as had been asked. You will notice that across cultural & generational boundaries, being gay/lesbian in Denmark pretty much would be considered a non-issue. This video was taken late in the afternoon, after the parade and big celebration at City Hall Plaza which I'd been uncommonly clueless about, but still, the video captures the infectiousness and inclusive "happiness" that sits behind the gay/lesbian movement. As a child, my aristocratic grandmother told me that the two huge Vikings in the statue that the video focuses on at the end, next to Copenhagen City Hall, blow their horns (lur) if a virgin crosses the plaza. That has not happened in anyone's memory. (:

I know how hard it was for you to post this and I'm so glad you finally could.
How nice to see family in Copenhagen. Glad you could be an ally by happenstance that day. But an ally always my brother.
Luv u Bent.
But, I gave you a ten anyway.
Thank you for being persistent and sharing that video with us.
Exactly right. That was the whole accidental point. It was unrecognizable as to what was gay and what wasn't. I'm sure if I had come by some hours earlier, and seen the parade and all that, that it would have told a different story. But the essence of that live and let live ambiance resulted in a very lovely Copenhagen afternoon for a lot of people, and I captured it all without trying. It was all accidental, since I did not know at first that I was filming the annual Copenhagen Pride. I was totally clueless, and that's rare for me about society.
