The Mogollon Rim in Arizona gets pounded tonight (August 16, 2008) with monsoon weather. This lightning is way off in the distance on top of the Mogollon Rim. Sorry about all the bouncing around. I guess I need to get a tripod. The small lights at the bottom of the screen are the lights of our little airport as well as their wind sock (orange). Enjoy. (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8)

Cicada's song in the background?? And I heard a bit of thunder. Heard there was a tornado that touched down in Williams.

Really? In Williams? Wow, I'll have to watch the news. I think it's actually crickets in the background. I asked them to please be quiet but they just weren't cooperating. For Rude!!!

Patricia: We do get a lot of storms this time of year. Usually we get a lot of "dry lightning" or lightning without any rain. A lot of forest fires are started this way. This year we've had quite a bit of moisture thank goodness and the lightning isn't quite as frightening. This is actually my favorite time of year in Arizona. The days are hot and miserable but by late afternoon the storms roll in and the air cools of tremendously.

Toni, one of those crickets found its way into my place about a week ago. He liked to sing to whatever I was watching on TV. When I turned the volume down, he got quieter, turn it up he got loud (and fancier with his song), down he quiets, mute and he'd sometimes stop. I was laughing pretty good at him, but it made it hard to find him. I finally did. He'd found, of all things, a partially opened box of small wood matches and crawled in. He was as big as the box. He couldn't easily get back out of the box, so I just took the box out and let him go. Funny.
