SMOKEY the Bear says, "Only YOU can prevent Robber Barrons."
Ever see the movie, "Used Cars" starring Kurt Russell ?
Them That Has Gets.
Thanks !
Depressions don't necessarily all have to look exactly alike, but one characteristic of the immediate period leading up to the 1929 crash which we don't yet see today is falling prices. Eventually, to qualify as being a depression, an economic cycle must include falling prices and the destructive impact of the accompanying deflation psychology, which causes purchases to be deferred and inventories to be trimmed.
This is not to say, necessarily, that extended price declines are not in our future. The globally widespread economic downturn we are seeing develop today combined with what has appeared to be a bubble-effect with respect to the escalating prices of many key commodities over the past few years could be construed to be a classic recipe for future deflation.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed viewing your video and appreciate the information it contained. The Brookings Institution, by the way, agrees with your rationale. It released a study during the depression that indicated that the soaring wealth gap, partly enhanced, ironically, by tax breaks for the wealthy in the late twenties, was a factor in destabilizing the economy.
During the Great Depression, Will Rogers said, " We hold the distiction of being the only Nation in the history of the world that ever went to the poor house in an automobile".
On the falling prices issue: This time around it seems like instead of falling prices, we have falling inventory. Not a day goes by that we don't hear of an established manufacturer dropping a signature product.
Yesterday, Jeep announced it is dropping the Jeep Cherokee and Ford announced it is dropping the F-10 pickup.
I wonder how long it will be before Ronald McDonald gets a pink slip ?
