My favorite is " don't look a gift horse in the mouth."
If they had looked it in the mouth they would have discovered an unwelcome surprise and maybe realized that this was something that they should not except. But their not look resulted in the deaths of hundreds and the collapse of a kingdom.
Its like today with all the spam clogging peoples emails, people read the title and have no idea where the sender is coming from. They open the message and sometimes flood their system with a computer virus or have all their personal information stolen.
I say always question what you are not sure about.
It used to be "All that glitters is not gold". In the internet age it's, "Nothing that glitters is gold".
