Great advice.
Newspaper jumps -- what a great comparison!
Thanks so much.
Claire I know you said to start strong but what about just starting? I can find a million reasons why I can't start . . . I need more chips and dip to motivate me, the dog needs to go out, gosh there are dishes to be done (Ok I never used that one but it could happen). Can you help those of us who have the whole book in our heads to find a way to just sit down and write?
I worry that my news writing style is hampering my ability to do a long-term project. I never have a second draft and I might be afraid of rewriting since I don't do it now. I don't get to spend more than half and hour on most stories. How on earth will I finish a novel?
Thanks so much!
I agree. As a reader, I like to know right away whether I'm in or I'm out as far as a book goes!
Your timing is perfect. My next video is going to be about just that -- so stay tuned! And you're so right, procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles to finishing that book.
Don't look at it as a whole novel. Look at your first draft as a bunch of little pieces you're stringing together. I still get overwhelmed if I think of the whole book. Again, more on that in the next video.
If you can handle your journalist deadlines, you can totally do this, Kim! Just try to stay in the moment and don't think too far ahead.
Now go let your dog out! Your book will still be waiting when you get back!
Thank you! And that's what I love about doing workshops. You just never know what's going to happen!
