"Man No One Sees" (From The Mini-Motion Picture, "MOXIE")

This is a segment from a film called, "Moxie." We filmed it in the summer of 2006, but we have had many snags along the way. I am hoping the film will be finished by "someday".
This piece has also been nominated for "best experimental short" at 2008's Pill Awards in NYC.

This video is INCREDIBLE and I can't wait for the lyrics in order to write a review!!! It's so autobiographical, TU, and it seems to summarize your entire life in 4 minutes!
The range of themes you managed to get into this clip is amazing. There's unrequited homoerotic love, of course, with both the guy "in" and the guy "out' of the closet suffering equally. Then there's the title-- once you become gay, you are a minority, and therefore invisible. There's also you appearing in your own audience (That is you, isn't it?), right alongside the bigots. A metaphor for your transformation from Christian minister to your true self?
I'm not quite sure I understand the beginning (probably because I can't make out all of the words), but you seem to be some sort of scary Michael Jackson-ish "Fairy Godfather", explaining to the bigots and bible thumpers that gays and bi's simply "are", and there's nothing they can do about it.
Once the scene switches to the garden, I think I understand, and the religious motifs start to flow.
The first set, with its abundant vegetation, looks like the Garden of Eden, especially when you switch to color-- it's lush and wet and erotic, and you begin to disrobe and shed make-up. Your true self is revealed.
Then the lighting changes, and you are in hell, yelling out at the bible thumpers who see you as Lucifer. The light flashes are the Apocalypse, and the bible-thumpers and bigots try to shield themselves.
The sight and sound of rain pervades the entire video, nature crying for you (and us all) over this huge tragedy of misunderstanding. The final scene of the main character crying in the rain is heart-rending. He hugs himself, since no one else will embrace him.
The main (gay) character is left in The Garden, crying, while the bigots and bible thumpers are cast out (well, onto the asphalt, at least!). Nice touch.
I've not kept up with the recent trends in music video production, but you seem to avoid many of the traps of this genre with your jump-cuts, moving letter-boxes, and um.... asynchronous lip-synching.
This is as good as anything I wrote about during the several years I was employed as a professional film reviewer. Kudos, guys! If you don't get famous, then something is fundamentally (pun intended) wrong with the universe.

hollie, yeah... it is a weird video and the movie is even more strange. while i appreciate you saying you could see it on mtv, i don't think mtv would like it... its too gay, too white, too rock-n-roll. thank you again!
