A few years ago, I spent some time trying to learn how to read a river for purposes of kayaking without capsizing, but we concentrated on the river as a whole, for obvious reasons.
from your poem and article and video I went to Tonia's video-from-stills of the life cycle of birds...
And saw, as noted there, how at its very simplest (Herakleitos level ;-] ), life is the flow of water combined with wise obstructions. Utterly complex in "molecular cell biology" but utterly simple at the highest level of design concept.
Flow+obstruct=life.
