It takes a while for the vine to grow, but a good plant person could steer you to a variety that really takes off. I've already trimmed a good 100 feet off of our vines because I got careless and didn't water them. All of the parts in the shadier areas of the house dropped their leaves.

Interesting idea. I like my traditional tree but the vine has given me ideas for other applications. I have some long vines in my sunroom. Maybe I'll drape them around as you have and hang some little sun catchers.

Kay, I particularly like the fact that the vine is alive, and my love for life has lead to a general disinterest in traditional religion. Living things, running around the house in the dead of a Minnesota winter are inspiring to me.

It's all the vine, Joanne. I don't think I've done anything special. I have never, ever fed it anything but water over the last 12 years.

I didn't focus on the disco ball. I originally wanted to shine a light on it, but that was too ambitious.

things were TOUGH when I was a kid.. the old man used to go trim [back] one of the big Cedar trees out in the yard and MAKE a Christmas tree out of pieces and parts and bailing wire..

I miss him.

We had a big woods out back, Lloyd, and we'd trudge back in there looking for two trees growing together, and then cut one so the other could grow better. We'd bring the other down - yes, dragging it through the deep snow in storybook Christmas fashion - and put the poor side up against the wall.

I must say, for not being the slightest bit religious, the Halls did Christmas just so.

Bailing wire. Really, now . . . You were set to bending them into ornate shapes with your teeth too I suppose : )

that is a cool and very unique way to have a Christmas tree!  But where do you put the presents under the tree??
