Ron, they are totally cool! I still miss the turkens, but I have to admit these kind of chickens have a lot of good qualities - and they are certainly prettier, and maybe smarter too. They sure know how to watch out for hawks. Our neighborhood hawks hunt them every single day, so I hope I don't lose them! Ivan is so dang old now that he's not going to break a sweat trying to take down a chicken. He knows all he has to do is meow and I'll open up a can of chicken cat food for him -- spoiled guy. How is your Ivan doing?
Give them some hugs for me! I miss having pet chickens :)
cheers,gayle
Heather, now they are in that stage where they say honk and beep - that just cracks me up. When something upsets them, they will give a true balk balk. I love watching chickens grow! So funny!
Thanks, Kirk!
Ron, that would be so hilarious. It's funny watching animals interact with each other - you never know what is going to happen next.
Jennifer, I was a bit afraid that one of them would get hurt in the making of this video, but all seemed to get along quite well.
Thanks, ♥ Jackie ♥ ! They grow so fast! I might get the first eggs around Christmas.
Lloyd, I love how chickens sound too. I've had a rooster in the past, and even that rather annoying noise, always made me smile. Chickens are just really fun animals to have roaming around - but the neighbors don't always think so.
Mike, I was hoping Abby and Bella would become famous television stars and I could live off of their income ;-)
Bonnie, I thought it looked more like Bella, the darker of the two chickens, was going to peck his eyes out. At one point they are really looking at each other in sort of a threatening way - but I guess they figured out neither one was too dangerous.
Nippy, I just used a 15 year old cat. He's not lunging at anything at this point in his life. He's big thing of the day is to go out in the garage and jump up into an old chair out there and continue on napping in that different location. But, 10 years ago, I bet he would have eaten both of them before that video was half-way over. These chickens are known to peck at eyes, so I don't know why they didn't hurt him - probably never figured out what he was.
Thanks, Steve. heheheheheh
G-Photo, dogs and chickens are not a good mix for sure. They usually won't kill a full grown chicken but they do love to chase them. The stray cats in our neighborhood are dangerous for the chickens. I lost both of my turkens from cat attacks so I keep a good eye on these too. Also, I have hawks that keep trying to hunt them. So many predators! Thanks so much! My daughter has to take all the credit for this video since it was her idea - I was just acting out a script - and forgetting my lines too.
Bradley, as far as I could tell, everyone survived the video. Maybe they have some emotional damage.
Mike, at least no one pooped on me this time!
Thanks, DW! You know it belongs only to you ;-)
Vee, barking dogs are so annoying. My back neighbor has five little shelties and they bark constantly too. I can't get them to shut up either. I think dogs bark when they can't see through the fence so they never know what is threatening them. I only seem to be able to communicate with cats and chickens. Dogs are a mystery to me.
Thanks, Rico!
Andrew, your dog is named "Bella"? That is so funny! I bet a beagle could catch a chicken - they are so fast.
Thanks, Leah! Abby, Bella, and Ivan would probably be Gather addicts like me if I taught them how to use the internet ;-)
David, that's so true - we are only a couple of generations removed from being subsistance farmers but all those skills are practically lost arts. It's fun to have a couple of chickens just to bring a little country to my life in the city. Thanks so much!
