I was lucky in that my first take was adequate. I don't fancy myself a filmmaker, so when it comes out this well initially, I feel fortunate and don't try for better lighting (which admittedly it could use).

Jennifer, I plugged "kalimba'' into Ebay and saw dozens. Any music store should be able to order you one. I recommend a Hugh Tracy alto model.
You're welcome, Laura.
Lea and Lydia, I'm glad you're familiar with them. They're really user friendly.
Karl, Payson is a fun town. I'd like to see that - what you saw - it sounds very interesting. Even if it's just a noisemaker, I collect noisemakers, among other things.
thanks for a great video...I really enjoyed it. (I may have to get a kalimba for myself too! :-D )
Angela, a kalimba takes up very little space, and it's tough, so as long as no one steps on it too hard, you can leave it most anywhere.
Jane, a kalimba is a great instrument for a kid starting out. Much less intimidating than the traditional music theory approach.
Sarina, the acoustics in that stairwell are really good, and it's nice and quiet. The door startled me also, but I'm on a mission to be relaxed and it didn't last long.
Susan and Diana, where to buy a kalimba will be part of a future lesson. If used isn't an issue, Ebay looks like the place to go. If it came out of tune, they're pretty easy to tune.
Thank you, Charlotte and Jessie!
Good video, too. Next time set out a Closed Set sign! : )
Elsie, I will do another video of me playing the syncopation I demonstrated on this post. Other than that, everything else I know on the kalimba is written by someone else, so there would be copyright issues.
I work at a large broadcasting institution. I do get opportunities to teach during the course of my day and enjoy the learner/facilitator interaction. Writing tutorials is something else I find fulfilling. But I am not technically a teacher. The best way to describe my job is I do things no one else wants to do (or people find intimidating, like writing federal grant applications), and I identify things that aren't getting done and then propose ways to accomplish them.
A priceless little example of the good we can do here -- worth keeping in mind when we're tempted to do otherwise.
Thank you, Thomas. I do feel this community is a good place to share, and like so many things the impact exceeds the effort, whether for good or not so good. It didn't take that much work to put this together. I didn't have a script; I just had a few things in mind I wanted to talk about.
As many reservations as I have about the new ability people have to remove comments from their articles, I think the trolls will become increasingly frustrated and go away.
I wanted to thank you for sharing your video with us!
Take care.
Nick, I don't get to teach things I've learned, and the internet is a really easy way to just run with it - no interviews, no school board . . .
