A bluebird egg in my backyard nest box. Almost 30 days since the last bluebird baby fledged. And the journey begins again.

aww, 1 little egg.. we have had bluebirds in our yard for a month probably and they have been checking out our birdhouse, going in and out, one day the female was taking grass and stuff in, but I am pretty sure still no eggs.

One so far, hopefully she will lay one each day for the next few days.
You need to look in the house to see what's going on, they will not mind. And it helps to guard against predators, sparrows, etc. Good luck!

well I am pretty sure the lid is nailed on, and to clean it out last year my father in law took it off and then back on, they had 2 that were just the same and gave us one.
There had been a pair of nuthatches checking it out a couple times but I have not seen them around for awhile and we don't have many sparrows around out here.

Lucky you to not have sparrows. There are too many here. Bluebirds like their houses clean, they will not nest if it's not clean. Maybe you could get a new house, they are not expensive.

Oh it was cleaned out good, I think the birds must be planning on using the house, because they keep coming to it and going inside, I haven't gone too close to it for a week or more because I didn't want to scare them away from it, but I know last time I peered in the hole there was nothing in it. We have another brand new house that must be in a bad spot because nothing has gone in it that I have seen.

I am so excited Nana. On the 25th, it will be exactly 30 days since the last baby fledged. Just so amazing to watch. Thank you for sharing in my joy.

Thank you Kevin. I have not had time to do a complete essay lately. Hopefully I will be able to soon. I was surprised to see the bluebirds starting another round of eggs so soon!

Yes, the bluebirds can have up to four broods per year. It all depends on the temperature, the food availability, the nest box availability and the experience or age of the birds.

Thank you David. We moved the nest box closer to the deck. Wasn't sure if they would return but they wasted no time. I have a better view now. I can really become addicted now.

I'm not sure Susan., Went out and looked in the box yesterday... no egg. But the nest was not disturbed so I don't suspect a predator. Sometimes they will remove the egg if it is infertile. I would have loved to have seen that, I guess they use their feet. I have not checked it today.
