Ghoul or Zombie? You make the call. - This fractal creation was done with Mandelbulb3D. A Mandelbulb is a 3D analogue of the Mandelbrot set, a type of fractal which is named after the mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot, who studied and popularized it.

More precisely, the Mandelbrot set is the set of values of c in the complex plane for which the orbit of 0 under iteration of the complex quadratic polynomial [z sub(n+1) = z sub(n) squared + c] remains bounded.

Or even more precisely, and perhaps more accurately, the Mandelbrot set is a bunch of mathematical mumbo jumbo that doesn't matter even one tiny little whit to the vast majority of people!

That is a mind-bender, and 3-dimensional in appearance. I see a skull in there with maybe a third eye. And some super-duper taffy-pulling.

Thanks Char! I'm thinking that both c and z make contributions. The most fascinating thing for me is simply the fact that this fractal creation can be reproduced exactly by anyone who has the formula and the values to be plugged in, plus the actual rendering algorithm. Ain't math grand? ;-)

LOL the art mass is how mathematical equations look in my mind! While in college I attempted college algebra 3 times with 3 different professors and NONE could figure out how to teach me; because I always asked???... why does it work? Not being able to understand the why of it... I guess, is the reason WHY I couldn't hold the equations in my mind? ;Ob LOL

Actually, I think I understand that better than you may think. I too have difficulty with things if I don't truly comprehend the whys and wherefores. I've always had to work really, really hard in my own math classes in college. But I once took geometry and aced all the tests because you only had to remember a very few theorems and basic ideas, and the rest came logically. The instructor was always writing on my tests "Gary, this is not how we did it in class. However, your proofs and work are executed validly." In other words, he didn't argue with success,... lucky for me!

I too was doing geometry in a technical graphics course, but I got to the point I needed algebra and it was all down hill from there. LOL Lucky for me I still passed that class, but needless to say I could not go on to the next. ;O)
