Uh oh, I once read a book, The Day of the Triffids, about the invasion of man eating alien plants.

I read the book and saw the movie, of course it was a British film so it was very foggy and dark but in the 60's I was pretty scared!

I'm with Gary H. Looks like I'm sighting through some alien plant life. But that's probably because Cacti don't make it up here in the north, so I'm not used to seeing them. However, I do love cactus plants and always have one or two that I keep inside. :-)

David, I noticed that there were previously a lot of blooms....will your cacti produce fruit?

No Sonia, in fact it is still blooming. Yellow flowers abound, but ony new cactus leaves emerge. I do have a great crop of mangoes this year. I suspect the drought this season might have something to do with that. I have dozens. This is the same tree that was halved by Wilma a few years back and almost died.

On the drier side of our island (our desert) there are lots of cacti growing. they too have the yellow blossoms but the little bloom nub will turn into fruit...I haven't tried doing anything with them but am sometimes tempted.

Our mango tree is huge and about 15 years old - only the last 3 or so years it has produced mangoes (bumper crop last year) but they aren't very good. If it weren't beccuase it shades the house nicely on one side I would have had it cut down and replaced already!

BTW, a friend from Miami shared a recipe for a Mango Cake....want it?

Yes, for me it is mango madness. Outside of giving them to friends, (they are all starting to hide) I'm running out of ideas.

I wouldn't run and hide if I saw a neighbor coming with mangoes!!!! I would welcome you (and the mangoes ;-) with open arms!!!

I've had these about eighteen years, but we keep cutting them back. They grow fast and high. I have to keep them away form our walk because people are constantly getting sttung by the needles. This is a very dry year and probably contributed to their rapid growth.

Why? outside of the fact that they need very little care and water, they do nothing but stick me as I walk by. the only good I see is they take up land that I don't need tomow.

I just like the way they look, and I think they would be very beneficial in keeping the critters out of my garden.. lol I'd plant a barrier, but then I'd probably be the one getting stuck.
