One of the themes I keep returning to for my landscape photographs is Reclaimd By Nature, beautiful vistas that quite recently the site of industrial activities. This shot of a setting sun over a lake in Farnborough, Hampshire is a man made landscape. During the vast urban expansion of London in the 19th century hundreds of pits were excavated as gravel and clay were extracted for the construction industry. The natural vegitation was devastated and the pits simply abandoned without any attempt to restore the land. They rapidly filled with water (none are much more than ten feet deep) and then nature took over and crated a new environment.

Do you have a daylight picture of the place that shows to what extent nature has taken over?
I did not find that place until late summer so the light was not great on my evening walks. But when the light is not great it can lead to the best photographs.
Trust me though, nature has completely reclaimed the site.
