I have talked to so many soldiers that have returned, and want to go back. They feel they are doing so much good there, and they can see it. I think this picture shows that in such few words.
I know that the American soldier is just as good and kind as their equivalents in civilian life. I sometimes meet some of these fine young men and women in my line of work. I appreciate what they do.
After the hurricane my husband and I went to get clean water that was trucked in. Two young soldiers were apparently told to stand some distance away from the distribution line. I think that they were there to help those who may not have been sure about where to go to get in line. I went over to thank them and to take their picture. One of them shook my hand and called me mam. He was so polite and charming. The other one snapped his fingers and made a very odd hand gesture. I tried to follow with a similar gesture, but could not. All three of us had a laugh at my clumsiness. In such a sad moment it was a great relief to laugh. I will always be grateful for the good guys who wear america's uniforms.
