Pre-sunrise a year ago today on November 2, 2008, as viewed through the window of my apartment in a northwest suburb of Chicago. The cloud protuberances on the left of the photo suggest two alligators on a hunt for prey. Will they capture the sun?

I was struck by those "scavenger birds" more than the "alligators" perhaps because of the way they look like they're forming a circle. That little circle of cloudlets brings to mind something else that I just can't quite place.
