" When Batista began using US supplied napalm on young men and conducting public hangings, the US withdrew support and Batista fled to the Dominican Republic with nearly 200 of his closest allies and all his money. On January 1, 1959 Castro took over Havana triumphantly.
Castro was a hero, a cigar-smoking former idealistic lawyer who drew the support because of his pomp, passion, and persuasion. He promised to tear down Batista’s system of injustice and just a year into his administration took a 180 and announced Cuba would become a Communist state. The move shook the hemisphere into a frenzy as the island would don its puppet strings again, this time, as a proxy of Soviet power."
In any case, he had the chance to lead his country into change for the better ... but became little better (if at all) than Batista. Did we (the U.S.) miss the boat by not supporting him? Maybe so - I'd have to do a little more research but from what I've read so far it seems we (the U.S.) supported Batista (a very bad guy) for too long. (Mmm.... sounds similar to what we are doing in Honduras irt supporting the wrong guy ....)
In any case, he turned out to be no better than Batista. Change. Don't think he brought the kind of change his followers actually wanted. And I do not think Obama is bringing the kind of change many of those who voted for him thought he'd be bringing either.

50 years ago Fidel Castro had already been in power over 10 years. Power he seized at the point of a gun. If this is somebodys comparison to the Obama presidency, then they need to reread their history books.
Anyway, by any stretch of the imagination, most of what has happened since January is not what many people hoped for with a change in DC.
Good to see you even if we still disagree.
You said: on the other hand Obama is bringing the change some of us voted for,
I know. . . . Yeah ... I know.
I know i am happy with my vote am not so happy with the democratic congress, but Obama is a good president and a good father to his kids a fine role model for our multicultural country.
From what I know about it ... which is really only what most of us have read and seen, I have to agree he seems like a very good dad and husband. And a good role model in that capacity for our multicultural country.

Its hard to see why people tend to be resentful of his success. If he dose well the whole country is up lifted if he fails the county falls back. It seem that those who look with glee for his faller betray us all
Look at it this way ... if you had a paper cut and the doctor told you he was cutting your arm off in order to stave off more paper cuts, would you think he was a success if he convinced 3 other people to hold you down while he cut your arm off? I think there is a disagreement there on what "success" looks like mmm?
So, therein lies the bug in this soup. Many people do not agree that his success irt what we perceive as his agenda is a good thing. There are just way too many far far left leaning 'isms' associated with the people in his past and in his administration for what he is doing to be acceptable to us.
