View from the Point Loma Lighthouse parking lot. That's North Island (Coronado) in the background and the city of San Diego beyond. I was kinda reminded to post this because this morning, at the very spot that I am standing on when I took this photo, a guy and his friend, both in their 70s were trying to park their vehicle when the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake and went over the cliff. However, one guy was able to walk away and the other is suffering from serious broken bones. Both will probably be OK. I think that the last time I was there I parked my car right near where they were trying to park theirs.

You can see a plane taking off from Lindberg in the background, but I don't know if you can see it at this size.

Thanks! I originally heard that both men were in the 70s, but the driver was actually 91 and got the worst of it. However, so far as I know, he's going to pull through. Officials claim their survival to the fact that they were both wearing seatbelts and had airbags.

Ooops, the news media is back to saying that the drive was 75. The two men are said to be friends for over 50 years and the driver had just been cleared to drive after suffering a hip problem.

I have to say, though, that there is bad news about this event. The 91 year old driver (originally reported to be in his 70s), died a few days ago from his injuries. What a way to go at 91.
