Oh! You live in Wisconsin. No wonder you were wearing a coat! You're south of where my husband went to college, up in Houghton, MI. I've spent a lot of time across Lake Michigan from you. It is beautiful up there. Thank you so much for sharing these pictures! :)

The temperature was down there, but it was a great day for pressing cider. Yes, Houghton is way up there from here! I'm glad you enjoyed these, Cathi. I may share some more later.

I would be delighted to see more photos. I really miss those leaves. It's just not the same down here. :(

Are you supposed to get snow today too? Few of our leaves have fallen here yet and I'm worried about the extra weight on the branches. Hopefully if we get any, it won't be much. I did notice flurries one day over the weekend.

We felt a few flurries in Fish Creek at noon yesterday, but that was it. The afternoon and evening were beautiful! We could see Jupiter before we finished pressing the last batch, long before we could see stars.

That's my favorite Pappa John looking ready for the chilled delight yet to come. Great picture.

My writing last week was about my folks traveling by bikes in '47, from Midland, Mi. (Pop's adopted family home), to Mom's family home of several generations in Calumet . The plan was to ride the bikes out to Eugene, Oregon for University.
After the shake down cruise, they loaded them on a bus in U.P. instead. Great stories journaled en-route though. And great country.

It is really interesting the way we meet people; I have noticed your name in Bob's articles, Magi and the pre-sim I think. Being absent for quite some time in gather I have lost touch with what is going on here and recently I joined the " autumn beauty " group and in this way you came once again on the firmament.

Quite often I get into very silent periods when I simply do not feel like being on a computer.

Brrrr...it is very cold in there; I am not sure but it musty be below 0 C.

Yes, we made 8 gallons. Perhaps we'll make some more later depending upon the weather and what other family members' plans are.

Nope. Overdue for a trim. My daughters have never seen me without a beard except in photos. It's been there since November of 1974, Back then it was reddish brown with a few gray streaks over the chin.

Love the new icon, John, although I'm not sure how "new" it is as I haven't been on here much lately. Cider. Mmmm. Never pressed it myself or had it straight from home, but I'll bet it's a thousand times better than what you get at the store. I love the Martinelli's brand of apple cider.

There were reports that a man fitting this photographic description was adrift in a tiny rowboat in the middle of Lake Michigan and when planes flew over he held up a sign that said, "I don't use shaving cream." Of course no one thought this newsworthy, but close inspection of the craft showed jugs of apple cider, but oddly no fishing pole.

Oldest son John W. took these as we were pressing cider. We managed to get two of our 4 "kids" and 2 grandchildren together for cider pressing yesterday. There are still apples on the trees and the cider is quite tart. We picked, washed, ground, pressed,. . . Our apples are very large this year. We do not spray the tree, so I am surprised how nice they are. These are Northern Spy. They are excellent for cooking and baking. These are little crabapples of my neighbor's. It is a pretty tree. These are edible. Some people make crabapple jelly from them. I don't bother because I have too many other apples to use this year.
