Will do you have any idea when or where this was taken? I was in high school in the late 50's and college in the early 60's. I remember watching the Little Rock School integration on TV. A lot of racial hatred was floating around the country. Now we have racism and evangelical so called christains doing the same thing. Lucky us~
According to the Library of Congress, the photo is from 20 August, 1959. The rally was at the Arkansas state capitol, and you're right on the money -- it was a protest against school integration.
As soon as I saw it, it made me think of the current Teabagger crowd. It wouldn't surprise me if some of their parents and grandparents were in this photo.
I notice the sign "Race-mixing is Communism" but conspicuously absent is the "Inbreds Can't Think Straight" sign. Then again, as they say, 'incest IS relative.'
I challenge all and sundry to look at this photo and point out a single person not swimming in a septic and inbred gene pool. However, shhhhh. That's a 'secret.' "The really important issue is my nose in your personal business. Your love life is my hate life."
