not so green when they are killing the birds they need to be caged to protect those who fly

The birds do not go near the Turbines and there are number of trees around..no noize..very beautiful.I said ....Green ....as todays energy we use [except for Hydro...which also effects ecology due to dams being constructed in acres and acres of land ]...is from fuels which polute .These Wind Turbines are clean.

This is a beautiful shot. I drove by a bunch of them in Vermont - it is amazing how big they are.

Thanks Diva,It is beautiful... and they are huge .Needs a network of roads for installation by huge cranes as well as for maintenance.Then a network of power lines etc.

sunil, I'm a solar fan, but wind would be next in line. I do hear vibrations can cause problems for people living nearby?

No there are no vibrations but a whirring sound ..These are on Hillocks with no inhabitants close by.

They're 'clean' (up to a point) - but they make a helluva noise when you have a wind 'farm'. They also don't look very nice. A huge windfarm has been sited in Stirlingshire - near the site of Bannockburn, one of our most important battlegrounds from history. Why site them near people?

Yes as the winds are high there is a whirring sound..These are sited in areas where wind are most found in hillocks ...where there was no inhabitants....Here NEW town have come up where ever the farms are because of the employment being generated.There are maintenance staff,transport.. Power stations .With it come up hotels,inns and cafeterrias..

WOW! The naysayers think birds are killed by these? How many birds die in jet turbines every year? Let's get real, we need clean renewable energy. We need to stop killing our young for oil. We need energy independence. I have stood under these and at most hear a whisper. Would you rather look at the caskets of our youth?

I never said birds were killed. I HAVE stood under the things, they whistle like fury... maybe you live in an area considerably less windy than Scotland.

Thanks for visting Clay...I do agree too we need clean renewable energy.but insentives are still not very good and winds do have there times for generation..How about around you ??

Wind Farms are only a small part of the answer. Personally, I find them beautiful, for I know our lands aren't being stripped for coal (see pics of US or Canada), uranium isn't being enriched, and wars aren't being fought, yet, over wind and sun.
As a world we need to help developing countries leapfrog into clean energy, while we work on our own supply. Education is key: the public must be made aware of the true cost of oil/coal energy.

I live in Pennsylvania where we have power plants and (DID) have steel mills but now defunct. We have a gentleman in our area who purchased a windmill like the one in your picture but on a smaller scale. He lives on the edge of one of our rivers and wanted to use it to save himself the cost of electricity. But the town managers are arguing among themselves as to whether he should be permitted. It is so silly. The man has paid for the device himself and is now stuck with it until a decision is made one way or another. The town leaders explain that there must be a significant amount of "fall space" for the installation but if that is true then nobody will be permitted because it is a congested area. Except for the area this man lives in. It is a sad case for him. I hope they change their minds so he isn't out the amount he invested. (Many people say he should have just installed it and let the chips fall where they may. But he did want to adhere to the rules. We'll see.
