Scioto County 4-H Swine Show 2009

I never did show swine as a 4-H'er, except when I participated in the Showman of Showmen Contest (which is where the senior winner of Showmanship in each species show one of every animal at the fair) and I always managed to get the meanest pig at the fair.

These kids are juniors which are ages 9 to 11. I'm sad the number of kids in any 4-H livestock project were about half what they were when I was in the organization just five years ago.

We raised pigs this year, Chandler wasn't old enough for 4-H, he missed it by 2 months. But, wefigured it would be good practice for this upcoming year, he's very excited.

What kind do you guys have? I always got stuck with a red Duroc who seemed to know his life had days left in it, and was on a binge to punish all humans who crossed its path. One year the hog grabbed my boot in its mouth and I cried cause I though I was about to loose a foot LOL

They look good. Sometimes, it's too bad that these animals are going to be lunches and dinners, but that's how it goes.

Seems like all the organizations like that are losing members.

Great shot! I only saw people working with the swine at school, but I was glad I stuck with goats and horses ;)

One thing i dont miss about 4-H the night before the show and the running of the pigs
