Evoluttion has been the way things have been on this earth in it's 4 billion year history, and needs to be taught in all public schools.
Richard my friend, you can actually educate yourself with the scientific facts about this widely taught and held, though erroneous opinion, at the site I linked to for you..
Evoluttion has been the way things have been on this earth in it's 4 billion
Oh? Were you there? Give us explanation for how life began on Earth. Explain the DNA in every cell of every creature shows unmistakable evidence of having been deliberately designed by an intelligent being.
Life on this earth started with volcanic action and lighting strikes, some 4 billion years ago.
I don't agree that taking an emphasis off of a religion that doesn't necessarily work for everyone at this day and time as a demise of the school system. I agree that reglion should be something taught in the home not in the schools. If you want your kids to go to church and read the bible every day as a parent that is your right. The dates you mentioned above were at a time when our culture was not nearly as diverse as it is today. With that in mind of course things would have to change to make our country more welcoming to everyone. That is one of the greatest problems with the Christian religion. If you don't agree as we do you are not welcome. I am thankful that this type of attitude and prejuidice isn't prevalent in the schools anymore.
Jennifer, I agree with you to a point, however first, most Christian parents do teach their children at home.. Is that really enough today? Then out the door they go into the classrooms of those who actually carry the most influence and control over them, speaking time wise, which is the better part of every day thus, who are responsible for what the kids are learning and/or being taught or even "untaught"? Schools or the home? Most schools have been programmed over time to either question, assult, debate or ridicule a Christian child's home teachings and beliefs, causing THEM to feel "unwelcome" Would you agree? Should'nt Christian children be given the same welcome and support as children of other religions and cultures? Our country has developed or rather slid into one that is more concerned with running a popularity gambit. Driven to make other beliefs so welcome that we are changing or destroying ourselves, our tried and true values and beliefs, our history, our constituion and our language in the process, simply to accomodate and cator to the ever increasing incorporation into "other's" beliefs and standards.. Shouldn't we be focused on maintaining our own, while still allowing others to believe and practice as they wish. Biblical principles were this nation's guidlines. The lack of which is so obvious today that it's scary...... Through the Bible's absolutes, we we were able to see and know what was good as good and bad as bad.. Today that concept has been nearly totally reversed in our society..... We now live in a nation where "anything" goes... And we still wonder why we have so many problems?
I can't agree. I did go to public schools, and graduated not so long ago, and I don't think Christian Children are being persecuted in the least. I would love to see where this happening. I am not a Christian in the sense that you are referring to. I am a human who belives in God but I will never have any part of organized religion. If my child chooses to in his life I will abide by his choice but it will have to be a choice he makes and not one I make for him. As far as the public school systems today i don't think it should be entirely up the schools to give each and every one of these kids the foundation they need. I've taught my son right and wrong and the right way to treat people.
Again too as I mentioned in my other post when our nation was founded there was only one prevalent religion in society and again I don't think the schools are the place for them to find religion. It is a place for them to learn. if you want your children to be simply based on religious principles there are private schools you can send them to.
I also don't blame the entire fall of society on the lack of religion. I honestly don't know what can be the cause, but neither does anyone else.
I know from reading your posts you are always very passionate about your causes and I think that is commendable but becoming zealous will only turn people away from you.
You people need to stop trying to get the public schools to teach our children non-scientific nonsense as if it were equal to science. It's not! "God di it." is NOT an answer to ANY science question. If you keep it up, we're slowly going to lose the scientific foundation of our industrial society, scientific and industrial progress will cease, and that will be the end of the USA as the industrial leader of the world. Beleive me... this nonsense is not even discussed in the rest of the industrialized world.
Oh, and I almost NEVER rate anything a "1," but for this nonsense I always will.
Chuck, you want science? lol... Then I suggest you spend some time researching that site I gave you, which btw, I doubt you have?.. I could be wrong though........It's right up your alley my friend, written and maintained by "Scientists" "Professionals" and HIGHLY educated people such as yourself and a few others who insist on debating simple black and white issues.. lol... If you or others are "genuinly" interested in facts, then I would suggest you spend a wee bit of your time learning them.
Since you rated it a "1" then I will assume it threatened you or your pov in some way? I expect that, my friend and it doesn't upset me in the least..
There are so many reasons not to believe, if that is what one wants. There is only One reason to believe and it sets us free of the burden of worry and showers graces and blessings on us. The choice, of course, is up to the individual.
Read the entire linked article folks, it's quite complete, leaves out nothing and futher very educational...... You may well be surprised by facts you were not aware of? Btw, does anyone have any "reasonable" explaination or explainations for our nation's ongoing educational demise? Surely no one could disagree that it exists and it's become a very volitile situation to say the least...
A great deal of our allegd "educational demise" has to do with time and energy being wasted on this stuff, and with textbooks being dumbed down to keep folks like you from showing up and wasting the school's time in argument and lawsuits.
Now THAT'S an educated opinion and/or explaination, Chuck? lol...
Does that also happen to be your explaination for all the violence, drug addition, teen pregnancies, abortions, suicides and dangerously floundering young people by the hundreds of thousands in our country?
This article went out to LOTS of groups on Gather that profile themselves as educational groups... I'm curious and looking forward to hearing their points of view....
We all came by evolution from blue-green slime algae to bacteria, to Ocean swimming critters, forward to where we are now.
You ARE joking, right,Richard? Ok then, I'm really laughing now... lol..
He has to be, Sandy.
I have always educated my kids at home about Christianity. But I do think its sad when they took everything out of the schools. You can't pray nor pray over your food unless in silence to yourself. I have a hard time with everything they are doing now.
No one has stopped people from praying over food, I've seen it in schools all the time. All that has stopped is that no one is forced to pray to what they may think is a false deity.
And I rate you as a 10 because this is a good conversation to get on.
Thank you Sally........
Without the solid foundations of right and wrong (The Bible) the result is what is happening today.
Plenty of right and wrong taught in the homes without even the mention of God or religion.
Read John Gatto's writings. He reveals quite easily what's gone on and what the end game plan is.
And the children can learn about how slavery is good and so is killing anyone that doesn't beleive the same as you. Oh....and lets not forget about the 700 wives and 300 concubines...or is it 300 wives and 700 concubines? I forget.
The founding fathers fought against having a national religion. I left religious mythology when I reached the age of reason and have always noticed how religion is not used to bring people together, but to set up the "us vs. them" attitude, works very well to keep people "in their place" and not asking too many questions. Remember, most churches are the most segregated areas of american life.
If people studied history and archeology instead of getting all tied up in religion, they'd know that old english law(the basis for our system), brehon law and many other cultures had a justice system set up and knew right from wrong long before christianity raised its head in the areas of Northern Europe.
Well, I suppose in a modern, Godless society of today, you would believe it's better that children are taught homosexuality is a normal and positive behavior, abortion is not murder, that counciling, and prescription drugs are the answer to their problems. The secular education you speak of, has surely done a bang up, whip butt job at preventing astronomical numbers of teen suicides as well as serious, disfunctional behavior tendencies, alcoholism, drug addiction, run aways, teen pregancies, abortions, violence, murders in the schools and hate and bully issues, just to name a FEW, of course........ And would you also teach them that their precious little self esteems are so fragile and much more important than the lost art of being taught, with a switch, if needed, to be responsible, respectful, unselfish and to respect and obey authority, not to mentions their parents, Awwwww but on second thought,............. their parents have been much to busy with their own generational issues and self serving agendas to spend much precious, quality time with their children much less, work at setting a positive and respectable example to them of what is right and wrong! Do they TEACH them anything of value or importance that they will need to handle life, other than making money, but often not even how to become a functional, mature, caring and productive member of society .. Why? Because they don't know how. They haven't been taught anything of value or importance! This value and importance WAS located, relied on and acted upon from the Bible WHEN it was a vital and important text book in our nation's schools........ And the beat goes on??.....
And you talk about studying history and archeology?? Well THAT'S sure going to correct the problems now isn't it! Wow, I'd attend those classes if my diploma was a guarantee of making the world a better, more caring and safer place? It's when people chose to slice the safety knot of what you refer to as religion, and I must say, you know not what you are talking about, THAT'S when everything began going to hell in a handbasket in this nation and it's getting worse every day... or haven't you noticed? Have YOU studied your history and archeology?? If so, what solution did you come up with?
I have no quarrel with teaching the theory of evolution, as long as it is factually presented aand labeled a THEORY.
Like the "theory" of gravity, right?
Yes, indeed, Kim. There is an outside chance that our theory of gravity may not be entirely correct, of course. We have some facts and we string them together to produce a working theory. Only One has all the answers, no matter how long we seek, investigate and guess.
Well said Jan. Smiles.
I will have to take your word on this one.
Even if you wanted to teach Christianity in a public school today, could it be done in an unbiased manner? Which version of it would you teach? Catholic, Greek or Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Mormon, or Born Again? Which one could be chosen? It would have to be a unified version for all the public schools in america. And who would teach it? Could a teacher that follows Catholicism teach Born Again Christianity? Could a Baptist teach the Orthodox Christianity? Would an Episcopal parent want their child being taught Catholicism by a Born again christian teacher? If a family wants their child to have religious schooling, they should raise the money to send them to a parochial school of their own religion. Theoretically, even if you "forget" for a moment that there are children of many religious,(or non religious) backgrounds in our schools, Christianity is so diverse, who is to decide the curriculum.
Aside from which, current science and evolution, whether fact or theory depending on beliefs must be taught, for our children to be on a par with the rest of the world.
I also believe that if the schools want to improve, that they should go back to the old ways of teaching. By rote, and phonetics, and stop changing curriculums and teaching just for exams. When my son was in elementary school alone, they came up with 3 different "new maths" in 5 years, how is a kid to learn if they keep changing the process.
The different doctrines that you refer to, are merely that. Different doctrines. They were not and should not be an issue. Our schools taught Christianity, the Bible. Period.......... It's not complicated..... Sadly, "the old ways" you speak of, have also been kicked to the curb along with much of the genuine caring, serious dedication and exceptional quality that most teachers used to put into their work..... Today, teaching seems more about pay, benifits, time off and hours in the day. Insuring that our children actually LEARN what they will desperately need in the future, has taken a back seat to self serving interests..... The "old" way of teaching included the Bible, thus what we see and our children experience today, is the lack of that.....
I grew up educated in private religious schools. Lots of prayer,etc...and lots of memorization and recitation, was a good way to learn many things, and also learned good study habits, but it had nothing to do with the material of religious belief. These methods work well no matter the topic, biblical or otherwise.
Recitation of poerty and learning music (reading music) is known to be supeoir to many things.
As for the childrens behaviour most I see are doing well in spite of all the difficulties. The difficulties are not from lack of prayer, or teaching Bible stories that have the earth's history only taking 6,000 years, instead of millions and billions, and is still ongoing.
Lots of the behviour is from bad food. Foof that doesn't really qualify as being food. Lack of nutrition while the baby is forming, and lack of nutrition as they grow. It effects the brain development. It's been long enough for all the chemicals, and additives to affect more than one generation of having babies.
Corperatism has effected negatively to the demise of everything much more than the lack of the Bible being read in the schools.
Most of the schooling taking place in other parts of the world are not teaching religiously about anything, and they are kicking American butt, on educating their children.
We have American liberals teaching in most of our Colleges and Schools. I think a person could get a better education in Iran or Antarctica. If you are a Christian Dorthy then you know the Bible is the best source of education. If you are a liberal the Bible may mean very little to you or nothing.
nice photo...
I used the Bible to teach my kids to read.
That's a good Mom. And a lot of it will stick with them when they grow up.
Thank you Shirley! That's my son in law with my 4 yr. old grand son, Dominik during their trip to the beach....
