Xylaria polymorpha (Dead Man's Fingers) I have been trying to find this mushroom in the forest for the last three years with no luck but while weeding my flower bed which is a real jungle I found them.

That is very neat Angela. I've only seen photos, never seen them in the wild.
They were actually growing under weeds hidden, I destroyed several of them so if your looking for them Im guessing you have to move a lot of cover they died shortly after they were uncovered when they should have lasted til the end of summer which i didnt know until tonight if they come back next year I will know to keep them under something I would have like to have seen them become completely black they are one of the longer living mushrooms and some can last til fall
These are so creepy.
Those are very interesting!
Angela, good shot of this strange looking mushroom . Can I assume it is not edible?
Whoa, I've never seen them before! Very unique, and I can see why they have that name!
I can see where they get their name. This is not one I have seen before.
Neat...I'v never heard of them before.
Dead Man's Fingers-- reminds me of Chiller Theater.
O my god! Freddie's clawing his way out of the grave! Run!
This is so interesting, I never heard of it. Amazing you had it growing in your garden.
