Michelle, this is one of the nicest areas of downtown--the Governor's Mansion on one side of the building and City Hall on the other. Most of this area of downtown is very well maintained....I am very fortunate to work in such surroundings.
Elaine, this is a very small part of the metropolitan city and only a part of the downtown area. Major renovations are underway in other parts of downtown, as is a re-development effort. It's progress, I'll say that--but really, to find another area that looks like this in the metroplitan area, one has to drive several miles to Madison or Flowood, where the major malls look like this--and cover a somewhat larger area. Madison, in particular, is the 'showplace' of the state, due to its extremely strict building codes and homeowner's association codes. (I call it 'Stepford' if that is any indication with meaning for you.)
