Homosassa Springs has a small herd of captive female manatees. They have all been harmed in some way and can no longer survive in the wild. Most pictures are from a distance, but this manatee seemed to be as interested in seeing me as I was in seeing her up close. They have a large structure with large windows build down into the water. It is refered to as the fishbowl. I have some great snook pictures from the same location. It is a spring and a constant 72 degrees so all kinds of fish come in the winter to keep warm. Not allowed to fish in there only drawback.

I think most harm comes to them from the propellers of outboard motors of boats. I've seen many pictures of them with the scars leftover afterwards. Poor things...

It's so sad that it's just not safe for them out in nature... I've also seen some of the awful scars left behind. Nice close-up!
