Haymarket is an open air market in the North End of Boston. When I started going there in 1978, it was all Italian families who'd sold there forever. Now it's a diverse bunch, including a couple halal butchers -- but the main thing is the produce!

This is th best kind of place to shop! I've visited the Haymarket, and felt at home there, because it is so much like Philadelphia's Italian Market on 9th Street in South Philly. It was also filled with vendors from old Italian families then and now has all kinds, including halal butchers. In addition, i is now getting surrounded by the new Asiatown (in addition to the old Chinatown on the other side of Market Street), so the variety of wonderful goods offered is increased. One of the since forever vendors that is not Italian is Bitar's Middle Eastern market.
