I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that neither of us has a Tear-ble Tahl. The best we can do this Sunday is wave these cookies.

But damn, those cookies look good enough to eat.
These cookies came from a bakery in Pittsburgh, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Steelers fans are pretty um...enthusiastic. They wave or display their Terrible Towels (or, in Pittsburghese*, "Tear-ble Tahls") during the football games to show their support and enthusiasm. The Terrible Towel is the flag of the Steeler Nation. Myron Cope, who invented the Towel (and gave all of the rights and profits from the Towels to a local school for children with developmental disabilities), believed it had/has mystical powers.
This Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the Super Bowl, which is like the Grand Prize of Football. Even though we don't have a Terrible Towel of our own to wave, we do have Terrible Towel cookies (well, one now, since we ate one). We want the Steelers to win. Even President Obama wants the Steelers to win.
*special link for Aniko
For anyone who didn't: HERE WE GO. (The jersey Obama is holding up in the inset was given to him by Steelers President Dan Rooney when Obama visited Pittsburgh in October.)
GO STEELERS!!!
Useless PantsTrivia™: The correct pronunciation of "Eat 'n Park" is "Krap 'n Tae." See?! I was already a full grown alcoholic before I lived in the Midwest!
*Spell check wants me to type Steelmakers rather than Steelers. HA!*
That's an idea. I will not dance down the street half-naked like the neighbors did last time they won though.
"are these an Eat 'n Park creation or somewhere else?"
They're from Prantl's Bakery ("Home of the Burnt Almond Torte") in Shadyside.
"Well, Janna, you DO still have time to get a Terrible Towel, ya' know?"
Yeah--maybe I will break down and get a tahl at the Iggle.
GO STEELERS!
I have a tahl... probably the only one in Georgia! LOL!!...
But I'm going to need some of those football cookies for game day....
I'd better get the cookie dough started!!!!!
The link is pretty cool. It's safe for other people to visit, too. :-)
I'm not a football fan, but I know some people in Pittsburgh whom I like, so I'll wave an imaginary Terrible Towel and join in, "Go Steelers!"
AND, as a bonus, they sell Mancini's bread.
I'll have to check and see if they have the pepperoni rolls too. Oh man, now I've gone and made myself hungry.
go Steelers
I think I recall reading that. As far as bakeries go, I think Prantl's is only average, and I'm not a big fan of the Burnt Almond Torte, like most everyone else is. I actually like the Oakmont Bakery's version better than Prantls'. I never did get to the Jenny Lee bakery before it closed, which makes me sad. I have had Mancini's pepperoni rolls dahn at the Strip n'at. Good stuff.
One of first places I dragged Dave to when I moved here was Jean-Marc Chatellier's French Bakery in Millvale, of all places (getting there took two attempts and is a story in itself). Pittsburgh bakery aficionados really must drag themselves to Millvale to check it out. It's good stuff.
Check out Jean-Marc's Steelers offerings:
Football Americain
allez les STEELERS!
P.S. I finally got me a Tahl. Go Stillers!
Glad you got your tahl! GO STEELERS!
Make sure you get me a tart with a marzipan plaque for my birthday:
"If you want to do as they do in France, you may order any of Jean-Marc’s tarts as a birthday cake. He can write your happy birthday message on a small marzipan plaque. Trés chic!"
I'll have to check out the Bellevue bakery next time I'm up that way (not very often, I admit.)
Gotta go get the spread ready. Horns are honking already!
1. I agree.
2. Jagoff.
