This is my great-uncle Edward Augustine Coffman. He was a half-wit (can I say that? Maybe I should go with developmentally challenged to be more politically correct). Ed lived to be 100 and mined for gold every day of his adult life. He spent years building himself the house pictured in the background. The reason I post this picture is as a look into my future. Not so slowly, mentally and physically, I am turning into this man. I might as well embrace this fact now. Hereby, I am releasing the inner me and this is what he looks like. May I live so long... Ken, any man who takes care of himself and can build his own shelter has nothing to be ashamed of. Success in life has many forms, a life filled with happiness for what you have instead of craving that which you don't is a success a majority fail to accomplish.

BTW: There is something endearing about the wild and a bit scraggly hair. Oh, 101, he must have been doing something right. Guess you're just hitting the mid-mark now. Enjoy the second half.

Don't misunderstand, I am leading an amazing charmed life. I'm saying that I've earned the right to be a stubborn and crotchety old fart who doesn't take any crap from anyone. I could deny the inevitablity of aging, but that's not my style. RIP, Uncle Ed. I will carry on the Coffman family quirks and traditions as best that I can.

Living to be 101 is nothing to sneeze at. And this picture is great. Unless you tell me this is what he looked like at age 35. If so, I'll begin commiserating with you now.

Ah, but Ken, he didn't lose his joy of life. Look at that smile. Hard work and doing something you love--he obviously loved mining and building, enhances our life. Looks like you are taking after the Coffman side. You love what you do, be it writing, music and a dozen other things you do. If you're lucky, one of the younger Coffman's will be taking your picture. It too will have a great smile.

I just now have taken a minute to really look at this picture. He reminds me very much of my Grandpa Charlie. Terrific picture and what a great life he must have led. He looks to be very happy in this picture and what more can one ask of life?

I love this pic! The construction in the background is awesome. Your uncle looks like he'd be a hoot to hang out with....probably full of stories and whatnot. :-)

So you're slowly developing into an old hoot too, huh? C-o-o-l! Just think of all the people you'll have hanging around listening to your half-wit stories. You'll be the cool old codger that lived to be 100 years old. The talk of the town. You may even make the front page news and be in Reader's Digest, National Enquirer, Star, and Hustler....oops, maybe not Hustler, but who knows? By then they may have a sexy, senior citizen centerfold. lol

Revisting some things, and now that I've met you, yes, I definately see the family resemblence! The snowy white hair, and man, catch the size of those hands! Until I met you I had no idea, but it's clearly a family trait! I still love this picture!
