Karen, yes, this area is just about 14 miles from the house I grew up in. It is in the foothills of the Santa Catalina mountains, which are the mountains just north of Tucson (Mt. Lemon being the highest).

I hear you, James. I feel the same way. I have lived in the East for over 35 years, but it's still the desert when it comes to capturing the feel of home.

The oddest thing to me is that my kids were born where I live now, and they really do think of this as home. Meanwhile, my wife is from the east coast, very near the water, and that is what she misses. I guess those formative years really do form us.

James, how wonderful to see the Arizona desert again. We lived in Tucson for 6 years in the early 70s, in the foothills of the Tucson Mountains. I still miss that area. From our house we could see Mt. Lemon along with much of the S. Catalina range, plus - on a very clear day - the Santa Rita mountains way to the south.

I'm giving you a 10 for the photo and a 50 for bringing back all those memories.

Love the shot, my brother lives in Tucson so I've gotten a few pics of the Sonora as well on our visits to him. Also Casa Grande, there are some great old Saguaro there. We intend to retire to New Mexico sometime, hopefully in the not-too-distant future. (Meanwhile, we're patting ourselves on the back for toughing out another Minnesota winter - it's frigid here!)

I love your Tucson picture - we lived near the Saguaro National Monument (East). Probably called something else now. It was at the end of our road. Oldest was born there in 1980. Actually he was born in Tucson, not the park.

Thanks for the kind words. The National Monument is still called the same thing, I'm pretty sure- we visit my mother in Tucson most winters.

Being born in the Park could have been tough on you! :)
