This was the practice for final formation at OTS. I'm the chick on the right. WAF Squadron commander on the left. Goofy guy in the middle was prior enlisted. My favorite uniform, for Robb and Ron B.

I remember this photo from your articles about life in the great blue yonder. Then, as now, the wolves are howling and beating a path to your door. Perhaps I'd better have an express delivery of Vegemite sent to you so that you are empowered to handle all of the interest.
Ron, you know, I did get called "sir, er...ma'am" alot because those old timers weren't used to female officers.
By the time I began working in the fire service, the designation of "fireman" was no longer appropriate. In Baton Rouge, even at that time, women had been hired many years prior. Therefore, the proper term became "firefighter." We all worked together for a 24 hour hitch and slept in side-by-side bunks in one large dorm-room (except for the Captain who had his own quarters.) There were no "designated" showers or anything.......Yep, side-by-side with "women in uniform."
