Frightening... but if you've ever travelled through Russia, you know all too well that such large scale environmental destruction is commonplace. I hope the US can figure out how to step out and become a leader - rather than a laggard - on environmental issues.

I agree John. The U.S. must bring these issues to the forefront. But each individual can do something to make a difference.

doesn't look like the oil companies believe in stewardship of the environment.
