This picture is from June of 1913. It is my father' side of the family. This is a picture of my great-grandmother holding my grandfather. This picture was taken because my grandfather wasn't expected to live very long and this picture was to be the family's way of remembering him. My grandfather died this past June at 93.

What an awesome photograph! My mom was born in 1911, and at 95, is still in very good health and living independantly!

This is so amazing. It's a great photo and a wonderful story.

My grandmother weighed a bit over 3lbs when she was born, they put her in a shoe box next to the stove to keep her warm. Never expecting her to survive. She did though, and was a pistol her entire life!!!

What a beautiful photo! Thanks for sharing this story.I think there is a little sadness on your great grandmothers face.So many children were lost in infancy in years past,I'm glad your grandfather survived.

He was not a healthy child. He was under weight and was not expected to survive. However, he lasted 93 years.

This photo is so lovely. As are all the others. But this one captures a very special feeling between mother and child. I have a feeling that the power of his mother's love sustained something in him for almost a hundred years

Yes photos and cameras were expensive back then and people only had photos made on special occasions or as a final rememberance of some one. There is usually a story behind every old portrait.
