It's funny that you should say that Kimberly, because I think Sunshine was a little bit of BOTH your Beth and Joey -- depending on the day you caught her on! Hehehehe
Yes, Paul, parrots (budgies are actually in the parrot family) are wonderful little charmers. Sunshine was my very special little girl, who taught me how to love and care for these sweet little darlings. After her unexpected passing from egg binding last year, I became committed to rescuing birds who are disabled or unwanted. I call this rescue effort "Sunshine's Halo" for she was my angel and she left her love and knowledge (her "halo") behind.
Kimberly -- I really do have the best of both worlds with my budgies and my little dog, all of whom are rescues. And, with them here with me, I feel blessed!
This reminds me of my benji I had years ago. He liked to eat potato chips - but just a tiny tiny piece. When Paul McCartney's song "Someone's Knocking at the Door" came on, the bird would strut up high on it's perch and tweet away with the song! You are such a wonderful person to rescue the birds. Laurun -- Sunshine also had a way of singing to her favorite songs ... and she used to LOVE the show "Dancing With the Stars" -- not sure if she liked it for the music or for the dance. But, she would bob and sing at the same time!
Thank you, Susan. She was indeed the Sunshine of my life for 5 years and the inspiration for my forming a rescue mission for budgies. She passed away this past November from egg binding after a very healthy and happy life. Her passing was so very unexpected and it is amazing how deeply it affected me. She was a dear and special friend in the truest sense of the word.

Faith -- Sunshine never talked in people talk, but I understood her anyway. It was never important to me that she take on anything different than her natural ways. Also, Sunshine was a female, and it is generally the male who is the talker in the budgie world. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you J, Sunshine was a beauty. She was as cheeky as she was pretty. And because of her, I learned that even the tiniest of creatures can teach us lessons that we carry with us throughout our lives. For those lessons and for the friendship we shared for five glorious years, I am indebted to her and to her beautiful memory. Thank you for your kind words!
She looks like my 'Tommie" Who kept the cats in order (he was a 'tattle tale') He passed away two years ago but we still miss him (toxic spill near our home). You are right. Even the tiniest creature can teach us lessons.
