The nation has changed a lot since the days of the Revolution in the way it feels about liberty versus security. When I was a child in a little Catholic school learning 5th Grade level History, one of the statements that really struck a patriotic nerve with me was Patrick Henry's "Give me Liberty or give me Death!" When we read that as a class, it put a tear in my eye as I realized what was needed to ensure a free society. It is to live in defiance of oppression.

To live in defiance of oppression may mean to dedicate one's life to seeking and living Truth, rather than bowing to the gods of facts and appearances, eh?
And Truth.....is Beauty. The kind we feel first and define/express outside ourselves second.

De-finance (take the energy away from) lies [projection of our self-loathing onto "dictators" and "madmen" etc]

Thank you all for commenting. Yes Carolian, I guess you can look at it that way, but the most basic way I see living in defiance of oppression is living consciously without fear and conscious of cause and effect, the basic truth being already apparent and logic being the guiding light.
Right. To be unfearful, these days it will be a conscious act, and one we need to get started on perfecting. Cause and effect have always entered into anything in our lives that is truly important. May we all have logic to go with this.
Because things are getting worse, doesn't mean that they "have" to keep continuing to get worse...
