Most television advertising by big companies is propaganda. It's the repetition many times of a concept that may be unusual or unacceptable until it becomes adopted as acceptable by the viewers. For some ideas or products ten times is the threshold, while others take many more hits to their unconscious.

When I was a child, there was a family from Germany that lived across the street. The mother of the family said when she was growing up in Nazi Germany, one of her sisters was mentally retarded. One day some government people came and took her sister supposedly to an institution to help her, but that was the last they ever saw of there sister.

Bill picked up the best about what I was trying to iniate here. This happens all the time in every country. Usually not as blatant as this. But the times were tough and the world was just emerging from the effects of the Great Depression.

M.Q. - you did not say this but quickly the FEAR factor spread and people were afraid to speak-out. The message that speaking up was dissidence and all dissidents should be 're-educated'. .... also think USSR policies on re-education.

Janet - I think this was before the euthanasia began. Because first they would need to have the population buy-into the arguement.

Propaganda happens all the time .... but at what point is it propaganda and at what point 'educating' the public? As time change so do ethics, values and ways to handle situations .... meaning for disabilities many countries have state insurance or programs ... in other places it is strictly a matter for the family to handle.

and you have to fight tooth and nail for the Social Security benefits you have paid for all your working years, when you get disabled. And hire a lawyer and he gets 25% of your back pay. In the US anyway.

No, it goes against the stupidity with which we are inoculated from the cradle. My children and grandchildren have been raised around the ill, the injured, and the disabled....I am a retired registered nurse and am now disabled myself and in a power wheelchair....and they have no such instinct. In fact, my three youngest grandchildren actually fight to be the first to sit in Nana's lap in the wheelchair and "cruise", and none of the eight are ashamed to be seen in public with me. In fact, they seem to rather enjoy being with me, and I say this based on the fact that they and their friends regularly fill my 15 passenger van to go places with me. This "natural instinct" of which you speak simply does not exist. It is a learned response, and not one of which one should be proud.

Honestly someone tell me, what is the difference between this "propoganda" and all the 'abstinence doesn't work' and 'abortion is a woman's right' stuff that is going around today???

They keep pushing it, hoping eventually people will come to accept it as okay or at least somewhat "normal".
