I think we should boycott your brother. Forget blogging, we need to not buy something to get anyone's attention. It needs to be a movement. And no, I don't think it's sustainable. There will be no market here once the middle class dries up and the only thing left to do is sell junk from China at the strip mall for minimum wage thirty hours a week.

Somebody is making to much money if they are paying that man to say anything. Personally, I'd eliminate all speaking fees for current or former politicians. It is a conflict of interest. I'd outlaw paid lobbyists as well. And put a cap on campaign spending. None of it furthers the public interest and I don't care which party we are talking about. Both parties are corrupt.

My not very affordable health insurance company was bought in the last few months by the definitely not affordable giant in our state. Perfectly legal way to take out the competition. We are now looking at buying less for more -- junk policies that have high deductibles and 20% copays for everything. Wage reduction for people with stagnant wages. Get cancer or have some sort of devastating illness and tell me that won't be devastating.

Seriously. Or they will throw the bone down the road and say while we watch neglected people die that the fix kicks in. By the time we figure it out, a Republican will be back in office and we will be bankrupt.

Has No Child Left Behind been amended and tweaked? No. It's the same train wreck. The Patriot Act? No. It's the same shameful slam on the constitutional rights that define us as free people. Gitmo closed? Ha. Bankers first to the lifeboats? You betcha, have a billion dollar bonus on your way, in case you need some help with the mortgage. Health care premiums aren't a problem there and if the rich don't have a problem, none of the rest of us do either. I think the man honestly believes Reagan was right about trickle down. That's probably what they teach at Harvard.

The Bush Years? Bush taught us that when he said up, he meant down. So call this reform and hope for improvements. If Obama's first year is any indication of what is in store, we've been had.

Sorry. It's mock reform, a Christmas present to the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries. It's a start? Arguable benefits won't begin for years and years. The only thing starting is further enrichment of an industry that has no logical function if health care is to be viewed as a right. This is pure, greedy waste at taxpayer expense.

As Obama himself said of the mandate back when he was candidate Obama and a lot more likable: "We could eliminate homelessness if we passed a law that said everybody had to buy a house."

I'm still mad at Connecticut for re-electing this worm. He's not doing this for the voters of Connecticut, nor the citizens of the United States. This is for the insurance companies of Connecticut and Joe.

The dems should take away any perk he has and let him lead the filibuster and see where that takes his career. And it shouldn't just be a threat of filibuster. The Republicans should have to get out there and do it, day after day. Let them work through Christmas and the New Year, let them work overtime for big money to give the citizens the shaft. Let the cameras roll as they try to justify their just say no position. Meanwhile, chronicle people dying. Up is down and around is under and this is what the we don't care death panel actually looks like.

That's cool, Halie. Thanks for the friend invite. I agree, upgrade those drawer pulls and it upgrades the whole room. I've also changed out the yucky standard registers that come with a house for some classy art deco antiqued brass ones. I need to dump the plastic switch plate covers but haven't gotten there yet.

It's miserable. My doctor for my first child said to stay in bed and eat a few saltines before I tried to get up. It helped. My doctor for my second child prescribed something. That did the trick. And after three months, it should be over.

Someone's will has to trump someone else's if he wants and she doesn't or if it is flipped. One would think that if two people cared enough to sleep together, they'd care enough to either use birth control or jointly be responsible for bringing up baby. That's not the world a lot of people have to live in. I remember a beautiful, bright single young woman in our office who was going places, until she showed up visibly pregnant and I remember how we all changed toward her, not in a shunning way, but in a you're kidding way. She was like twenty and was going to go back home to live with her parents and raise her child. I remember thinking that no matter where the baby's father was, no one would be looking at him and asking why didn't he know better than to let this happen. And he wasn't dropping out and moving back with his parents.

If a man's relationship with the woman he got pregnant isn't strong enough or good enough to work through it to a mutually agreeable resolution, he shouldn't be asking the state to get in there and strong arm her to do what he wants. Child support his nothing compared to the way a pregnancy will change her life. Especially if it is a pregnancy that is literally threatening her life.

We usually agree, but his legal right kicked in when it was time to put on a condom or have a vasectomy if he wasn't prepared to be a Dad. If it were men who had the babies, abortions wouldn't be controversial. They'd be free.

Funny how some people who don't want the government to meddle in their own lives have no problem with trying to get the government to meddle in the lives of others.

My health insurer just gave my company notice that it's rates are going to go up 34% next year. In this economy? Something has to give. I also got an email on the same day advising I could save buckets of money if I hired people in India to do what our employees here do. No offense, but never mind that culturally, people in India could not do what our employees here do, this is not sustainable. If we don't overhaul everything and say no to a few billionaires who have already wrecked the system, the neocons will have gotten their way and we will be a third world country that nobody, rich or poor, will want to live in.
