I think the keywords in your article are "used to". Has NPR changed that much or is it you who have changed? Perhaps it is that both have changed. You have gotten older, and so have the people at who were at or on NPR. Notice again the use of the past tense. Many of the people who used to be at NPR have retired an been replaced by younger folk, and many of those who have yet to reach retirement age are looking things with a touch of nostalgia or with age have become more entrenched in their views and less willing to tolerate disagreement, as you may have.

The world is not static and being part of it, neither are we.

To quote Dennis from one of the 2008 debates. "I didn't think anyone was to the left of me!" It was in response to not being positioned at the far left of the stage. That was one of his one liners that made me decide that if one-liners were the primary criteria Dennis would have to have my my vote.

I heard that the one hour restriction on going to the bathroom will also apply to domestic flights. If this is true I think will will invest in a manufacturer of adult diapers.

Even if some provisions are unconstitutional that doesn't mean the entire bill is and you did not even mention the one that I think most clearly is. Could that be because becaise it is a sweetjeart provision that favors a specific insurance company?

Mooch,

No one can force you to receive any medical treatment even if you have insurance, but your doctor may choose to drop you, if you do not follow his/her advice.

Also no one is going to be told when they have to die, but just as it has always been you may be told you will die if certain preventive measures are not taken, and even then you will eventually will die.

Since the elections are still a long way off, I don't consider an 8 point lead that great.

A lot of the people polled are probably thing of a particular candidate and if that person does win their primary, minds will change. The attempts to once more purify the Republican party make this even more likely because it will result in bitter primary battles. In addition to the bitterness among Republicans being carried over to the election those nasty battles will be remembered by independents who could not vote in the primarys, and those who simply do not like seeing such nastiness and will work against the Republican candidate.

A lot also depend on what Congress does with the major issues before the election Few people are happy with the status quo and if the Dems can pass legislation that alters the status quo, it may be viewed as the party that can be more effective even if there are squabbles within the party.

Notice you omitted the exempting of Mutual of Omaha (and other Nebraska health insurance companies?) from a tax other health insurance companies will have to pay. That is the provision that struck me as clearly being unconstitutional, and I wonder why you failed to mention that provision?

Like many bills there are constitutional questions to be resolved, but unless the bill does not contain what has become pretty standard for bills the courts striking down a particular provision or provision will not mean the entire bill will be unconstitutional.

Before any court challenges can take place, the bill must become law and given the problems that must be resolved, it is unlikely that as it stands, the Senate health care reform bill will become law.

I suspect some of the ladies(?) who claim to have sex with him, never did. For them he has become their fifteen minutes of fame or a way of getting a few dollars out of one of the tabloids. There is not a single shred of evidence, that I ever met Tiger Woods, but if I were to claim to have had sex with him, I bet one of tabloids would jump on the story, however unlikely it might be.

I'd be careful about that. Some 20 year olds might think you were not taken with their youth and beauty and would be insulted. I've even encountered some apparently age sensitive older women who were taken aback when I addressed them as ma'am, and I am not about to call a woman who is anywhere near my age, "Miss" That too is a title of respect, but it also connotes age as well as marital status.

Titles can be tricky things. For instance, my icon not withstanding, if you were to address me as "Miss", I would assume you were flirting with me.

The preceding aside, if the general addressed male members of the Senate as "Senator", and did not use that title when addressing Senator Boxer she had reason to be offended.

As I said in my response to another comment, while ma'am may be a title of respect it does not recognize a woman's professional accomplishments. At best it is a title of respect for woman's age.

It is the form of address that is appropriate to use with any woman who is not considered to be a woman of ill-repute just as "Sir" is the general form of address that should be used when addressing any male who for what ever reason is considered worthy of one;s respect. To use such a title in place of a title that denotes individual accomplishment is a form of disrespect. As a civilian I would address any member of the military even a lowly private as "Sir" but if I were addressing a general in connection with his official duties it would not be considered appropriate to not recognize his elevated status.

Haven't followed "Climategate" very closely, so I don't know if the actually hackers or who, If anybody paid them to do the hacking, but how about punishing the hackers who stole the emails and anybody who paid them to do so?
Unless a sender or recipient printed out the emails and left them lying around for someone to accidentally find their actions represent a threat to everybody's right to privacy. It is the moral equivalent of paying intercepting a person's snail mail, copying it and putting it back in their mailbox, or breaking into someone's house and copy the contents of their mail, a journal or diary. It is becoming all to prevalent and if it is not stopped we can look forward to the day when hacking becomes an acceptable source of income.
