Depends on your outlook. A woman living close to a nuclear reactor has a 25 percent increased risk of giving birth to a stillborn baby.

Now, if say within 10 miles of a plant in one year you have 1200 stillborn births...it seems logical to attribute 300 of those stillborn births to the nuclear reactor based on the 25 percent increase in risk association.

From my way of thinking, the nuclear reactor murdered those 300 babies, and in some ways, their nuclear facilities being responsible for said still born birth in some ways makes them guilty of what could be percieved as a late term abortion or termination of life.

Debra...you can actually price the materials a life is made up of...less than ten bucks to be precise. Call me callous, but for what it cost here in America to save one premy, we could save the lives of 1,000's of babies in Africa, in Darfur and other impoverished nations.

Give me a break...they would have thrown the book at that skank if it were not for her money and fame. I know of cases where a parole violation on similiar issues saw the person do three months (90 days).

Rebecca...I love that movie!

Another classic, that not a lot of people are familiar with, is Schlock...it was a cult classic in the 70's that spoofs monster movies. The heroine is a blind girl, the monster and over grown gorilla...at one point in the movie, she decides to play fetch with the monster, whom she thinks is a dog. You see her throwing the stick a few times, with the gorilla (who is in love with her) going to fetch the stick, then in the next shot, you see him blocking her shots.

My favorite quote is from the Movie, "Caddy Shack" when Chevy Chase gives the immortal advice, "See your future, be your future."

As for Monty Python, give me the, "Life of Brian" and the quote, "Another Miracle" spoken by the ground when Brian, who was running away from the crowd fell into a large hole, falling on a hermit who had not spoken in 40 years deliberately.

Gaelyn, you have the option of getting cash instead of exchanging your points for gift cards...if you look at how much work is entailed in gathering up 3,000 points, not sure one should count on Gather as a career goal.

Sure some will take exception to my comment, but how much is it costing society to keep these children alive, pay to mainstream many of them with serious health mental issues in our schools, and then provide them with cradle to grave public help? It is fair to spend MILLIONS to keep one premature baby alive, when we have no problems turning once healthy adults away because they cannot afford medical insurance, partially because of the costs of taking care of premies.

I was a bike messenger out in San Francisco when the whole non-smokers rights thing first started. A behemoth of a woman in a calico mumu, would get out of her husband/boyfriend's 63 Ford Falcon with a super sized Slurpee, and a box of Twinkies, and lean up against the car which was spewing black pollutants into the air, while said male companion set up her table to collect signatures.

I told her I would quit smoking when she started walking to the 7 Eleven, and taking better care of her own health issues, rather than trying to blame them on second hand smoke. Decades later, while nuclear reactors spew tritium and strontium 90 into our rivers, lakes and oceans, society is still patting itself on the back for taking care of second hand smoke...a environmental/health placebo if there ever was one.

It takes all kinds to run a railroad. I myself have posted a few negative articles on gather. However, I would venture to say that less than 2 percent of my content tossed onto this site has been of a negative nature toward Gather. Some have disagreed with some of my political commentary, especially on the topic of illegals, but based on some of the comments I have recieved here, based on some of the friendships I have developed on this site, I'd say at least some of what I put up onto the groups has some merit to it...IE, was chosen as a finalist in the Starbucks Earth Watch contest, though I requested my entry be removed in the name of making a political statement about said contest. Does that make me a complainer?

Perhaps a more revealing question would be, "How many sexual partners did you have before marriage?"

In all honesty, I did it lots before marriage for practice, so that I would have it right on my wedding night.

Gather is not without its faults, and many great members have moved on. As one example...you state fine writers are rewarded with points. This is not necessarily so, since many of the younger posters run up their point totals commenting on each others pablum. I've seen hundreds of examples of worthless diatribe have 70-100 comments attached, all as meritless.

Perhaps some of those who whine the loudest are not complainers, but instead care enough about the site to see it resolve serious problems.

Well, if there is any justice, the good news is that Michael Scribner's score seems to be dropping, though Carol is running strong....which ever one of them wins in the end, wish them God's speed in their travels.

I just find it sad that a contest with such a noble original goal has been tainted by an attitude of win at all costs.

A lot of what you suggest would make sense...problem is, for wind, geo thermal and other renewable energy's including solar to make a serious impace, we need the DOE to stop sitting on battery technology. They do not want to do this, as they are pushing a Global Nuclear Renaissance for corporate and military reasons.

American workers living in, born in America have their wages depressed by over 200 BILLION dollars each year as a result of ILLEGALS in the work force...a wall along all 2200 miles of our Southern Border, and deportation of those here illegally would be a bonanza for most American families, regardless of their race, creed or sexual persuasion...Illegal is illegal.
