Small steps in the right direction are better than standing pat or steps of any size in the wrong direction. As on other matters, the Obama administration has been taking very, very small steps away from the disastrous misrule of George W. Bush and backed  y John McCain, who in the real world was the alternative. (I voted for Kuchinch in the 2004 presidential primary BTW).

Guess you don't own stock in Halliburton. I'd rather buy you a new car than spend money to alienate the world against the US as Bush has done--with blank checks from Congress until this year (and continued funding with complaints this year).

Bush plans to promote democracy from some tax-exempt scam institute once he leaves the White House. He and Rice could use some instruction on what democracy is and how it works from Taiwan, but it's easy to see that the PRC surveillance society is closer to what makes them comfortable than open dissent is.

Where here's smoke, there's usually fire. Mitch McConnel, who like Craig has done many unforgiveable things and backed many heinous measures, must have had some inklings of a pattern of conduct beyond the intercepted MSP incident. Like Foley's adventures, I'm sure that many colleaues knew that Craig cruised toilets in our nation's capital.

Mitt and his organization had to know about the rumors about Craig, but hypocricy rules, and once plausible deniability ceases, the fallen are dumped not matter how much they have done for the party of "traditional family values" (of which hypocricy is the first and most essentiial one...)

With the massive drain of resources (not least lives) in Iraq, US infrastructure is corroding, and more disasters are a'comin'--even leaving out blowback from the corporate welfare for Hallliburton et al.

The public seems to have a snooze alarm for wake-up calls and will probably sleep on.

Amidst a whole lot of free-associating, I'd slightly modify Clark Kent's point that Vitter's involvement in crime should be investigated, to agree with Stephen Murray that sex is sex is not how legal codes are written, and to make clear that I am appalled by would-be theocrats, not only Christianist ones and Islamist ones but Hinduist ones.

Clinton's very ill-advised (surely UNadvised) accepting blow jobs from an eager Monica Lewinsky was not a crime. Hiring prostitutes is one throughout the US (except in some counties in Nevada) And, as Stephen wrote, I indeed to not consider Bill Clinton a role model--nor do those who were howling for his hide (one of whom Vitter was) and now seeking to defend Vitter with irrelevant anologies. As I closed by writing:

" If Vitter were less sanctimonious about his "family values" and had the sense not to rail at the adulteries of others, his frequenting prostitutes would not be a matter to work out in private with his (seemingly compliant and perhaps collusive) wife."

The one similarity between the cases is of the wife standing by her hound-dog husband, though only one of the two (Vitter) has made a career of legislating a sexual morality that does not govern his own conduct.
