this is a superb shot. texture, field, intricacy. being in the midst of this and still able to see the beauty - that's a great ability. i do miss seeing trees in winter. only for a couple of weeks tho. seeing the branching structure of trees is immensely helpful for bonsai. this is a great snow/winter shot. well seen, well caught.

well. i missed this, this year. i often do try to look. at a number of sky phenomena. and as you point out, meteors can be spectacular. i did see a fireball once. about 1 PM yup. broad daylight. and it was impressive. other than trees i watched it sail across the sky from horizon to horizon on it's way north at an unbelievable speed and fire trail. i was on a road crew and not in town but one other guy was there and we both just stopped working and locked on to it until it was out of site. ...when i asked... "...you did see that, yes?" ...and he had. cool on pointing this out. hawaii is a great place for watching the skies.

quilts and sewing - in Art - have appealed to me for a long time. for a first quilt - wow. that's awesome. completing a project like this is a terrific achievement as well... and going after more - great! i suspect you look at a lot of quilts and patterns. i'm not a quilter. but i do look. i hadnt known about Hawaii quilts until i was living here. they are intriguing to me as much as quilts i've seen on the east coast (USA) and the UK. have fun. aloha.

your writing flows and reads easily... even if the subject is not quite as easy. the imagery was easy to follow and "see" - i like that in a short story or book. i see that the intention was to "create a place" - well done in that regard - this place is clearly drawn in my mind. i suspect it is a story that very much touches many lives in our time. that's a nice combination to have - concrete imagery and story line that relates to readers. well done.

i havnt heard that specific story altho i have read similar things. and yes, i think the action of psycho crow could very well be related to something done to it intentionally or unintentionally either one. and yes, you may be held in connection due to proximity. it sounds as if the stress may be easing. it would be interesting to investigate that first day that you encountered psycho crow and see if something happened that someone remembers relative to the birds. it was clearly agitated about something. ...may be a new born fell to a windshield and got tangled in the windshield wipers.. something a long those lines would make sense to me as an incident that triggered the behavior. it might not actually be one of your co-workers either - it might be a car that looks similar.. may be even one in that general area... we all affect everything around us, yes. i wish psycho crow well and hope the incidents continue to become fewer and fewer. . .

oh. yes, and companion crow. clearly doesnt want psycho crow to be alone in this activity even if companion crow doesnt want to take part - it's clearly important to be there. we all need a little support sometimes, yes. nice to have a companion like that.

aloha and thank you Marilyn - yup, it does and as you see it does have a strong pull to that area. the "faceness" wasnt intended altho i do sometimes see that kind of thing in my work. ...i can also see dragons in clouds... among other things.. and that is always fun to do too. so cool on the face-like area!

cool and aloha Gary - thank you. i know the area you are talking about. it does have a face like feel to it. to be clear, the face wasnt intentional. altho the pull of that area has the power of a face - which of course is a very powerful pull for most people. we tend to focus on the face for recognition more than almost any other visual - and we are attracted to people in visual works as we are in other forms... what i like about that area is the way it works as part of a triangular movement between crows and bauble - and then circling beyond that wider and wider with that face-like area as a center. i like that movement a lot.

aloha and thank you Suzie - one of the reasons i like working with digital tools is that i can work it and work it to get some of the things you've noted to work - in this case the unification of color as well as strokes is a quality that i like a lot in this piece as well.

i am aware of at least some of the Southwest styles of "Native" culture and painting in particular - altho this is true of other areas in the USA - and around the planet as well. i find a lot of that work to be very human as well as rich and exciting - something i value. i'd have to say there is some influence there altho it's not a conscious intent that i start with in most cases. there is a lot of other influence as well - the way i see it, everything i see and experience has some influence on me and that often shows up in my work. i do find it interesting that the relationship to "native" culture works does occur to a number of people. i was born in the southwest. altho i did not live there growing up i did often visit in those years and because of that i have had the opportunity to explore work there more so than some other areas. in some of my work i see a lot of Hawaiian influence too (having lived here for a while as well). mostly i am trying to be me as well as responding to the world around me where ever i am - and working with what i know or have some attraction to... those things do surface in my work at sometimes more than others..

hahaha - hmmmm... oh. erm... well. ya know Mona... i'm not sure psycho crow would value this particular vision/thing... given that it's not a REAL bauble... (altho i have made clay beads similar to the bauble in this) - this is more like Margitte's painting of a pipe "This Is Not A Pipe". in this case the image probably isnt as value worthy to psycho crow as Magritte's painting is to the art world. ...on the other hand... erm... claw... who knows? if i remember right i photo printed this in both sizes in July... altho i'd have to check - i know i did several of the crow and bauble etc. pieces. ...given psycho crow's stress... you have my permission to use your printed version to help psycho crow in any way you wish to try... ...good luck... and well being to psycho crow too.

as i read this. i had a sensing feeling about what was happening. so far i dont think your replies have quite covered this altho the "once captive" idea has a possibility along the same thinking...

my sensing was that this is the behavior of a being who is inconsolable over loosing a mate. not necessarily a life partner, it could just be a murder friend (murder of course being the group name for a bunch of crows that hang together).

the attacks as you describe them seem centered around windows. the possibility of a car zooming along and injuring a crow... a plane? may be? or just flying into a window that appeared to be a pass-through way (which i know birds do occasionally because they see the reflection of the trees etc. where they are flying from as continuing in the direction they are going) - this - any of these - can stun a bird and sometimes snaps their neck killing them. or it could stun them long enough for something else bad to happen to them.

it seems to me the crow is attacking windows as if this were an enemy of his. or his friend, that was injured or killed. if it was particularly painful... as in stunned and injured bad enough it could not fly or eat but died slowly and in pain... but wasnt abandoned by it's murder or at least it's friend - your psycho crow... then may be your psycho crow is on a one crow crusade for payback. or revenge, justice, the protection of others of it's murder...

may be the friend that eggs psycho crow on understands the need for psycho crow to get it out of his system - which may never happen - but also understands the futility of it as well and so doesnt take part in it but encourages psycho crow, hoping that psycho crow will become consoled at some point by what s/he is doing.

or may be one day this Don Quixote of Crows will simply feel that justice has been served and the hand... beak & claw - of punishment has wielded a sufficient toll on what it sees as the culprit.

...of course may be crows are smarter than that. may be psycho crow knows there was a human hand in what happened, but also realizes if it attacks a human, other humans are likely to set upon psycho crow unto death. . . and there for this crow is only exacting revenge symbolically... but not in such a way that humans will go after it. ...or may be it's pushing that edge to see just where that line is. . . ...

or. . . may be it is that reflection it is after. may be psycho crow and therefor his/her reflection didnt measure up to the way psycho crow wanted to be - as friend, mate, murder companion etc. and so... now... psycho crow is letting loose on him/her self so to speak.

clearly something is disturbing psycho crow. ..and as i look round... the most likely creature that might do that... turns out to be... yup. us. at least that's the way it seems to me...

what peace offering can you offer??? hmmm... a bauble? a bit of corn? i dont know. from the sounds of it, psycho crow doesnt seem to fear human beings too much. if you do make offerings... if psycho crow is still at this, that is... be gentle and careful however not showing fear seems like a good idea too. . . altho with sufficient protection i would think.

i'm very curious about what happens. or has happened...

did i post any of my "Crows With Baubles" pieces? i dont remember now without looking. ...not that one of those would help... (they are in my July? June? 2009 month sections on More 19 Planets - on eBlogger - if i didnt post something here).

and of course i am speaking from a group of islands... where there were once crows in the wild. that no longer is the case. it seems something has mostly eliminated them. at least in the wild, i understand there are a few still that are not in the wild. ...and how did this happen??? yup. probably we human beings had a hand in it. ...so we may well deserve the wrath psycho crow is delivering. it does seem like it is the rage of a being who has lost something significant and irreplaceable. . .

at any rate... i wish you and psycho crow well in this. aloha.

aloha Mona - cool and thank you. i like that you picked up on the sense of floating in this - i like that because to float means there is a sense of space and that is definitely one of the things i go after in this. ...of course i like to play with that space too - cool!
